WHY THE NAME LEATHERTOWN?

Acton was once home to the largest leather tannery in the entire British Empire! The leather (and fur) industry was the first large-scale industry in Canada, shaping the modern world as we know it today.

Leathertown Festival is a celebration of our history in this pioneering craft and of Canadian craftsmanship as a whole.

The Leathertown Festival started in the 1970’s as Acton Days, an event to help raise funds for the old Town Hall Building restoration. In 1991, Acton Days evolved into what we now know as the Leathertown Festival. The festival has been an annual event has run every year since with the exception of the Pandemic years. We’re back and better than ever!
